Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a simplified but very effective variant of Thought Field Therapy (TFT), but it has routes in ancient Eastern phylosophy, QiGong, chi and sha. It is now widely recognised that, in addition to having a physical body fuelled by food, we have an intricate subtle energy system fuelled by electrical impulses running through our bodies. This knowledge is used in many healing practices from the ancient Accupuncture to the modern science of Kinesiology.
How EFT works
When we have a distressing memory or thought it disrupts the body's energy system causing a blockage. This disruption will usually cause a negative emotion that often producies a psychological disturbance, or results in physical pain. Based on the underlying principle that,"the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system," Gary Craig set about developing a simplified healing technique to correct these imbalances. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) as it is now known uses the energy meridians (pathways) in our bodies to enable us release these negative emotions.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
can relieve symptoms, addiction,
fears and phobia, bereavement,
etc by employing the unusual
scientific routine of using the
fin
gertips
to tap on specific points on the
body's energy meridians. In EFT,
when gentle tapping or pressure
is applied on a point, the
neural receptors under the skin
convert the pressure to
electrical impulses that are
transmitted to the brain.
Focussing on a problem while
carrying out this simple EFT
procedure quickly neutralizes
disruptions in the body's
electrical system stopping
undesired chemical chain
reactions from taking place,
thereby bringing about relief
from emotional and physical
discomforts.
In simple terms, as a person
thinks about their problem or
becomes involved in an
emotionally disturbing
circumstance, the tapping
releases associated blockages
thus enabling the emotions to
come into balance.
Do I need to believe that it will work?
The
Effectiveness of the Emotional
Freedom Technique in no way
depends upon a belief that it
will work. This is probably
important, as the unusual
scientific yet incredibly simple
techniques used in EFT often
appear silly and too good to be
true for many people.
Although Emotional Freedom
Technique is relatively new and
is still developing, results
from the properly applied use of
EFT have been impressive, with
over 80% of clients achieving
either noticeable improvement or
complete cessation of the
problem within only four
treatments.
Results are often permanent and
you will have EFT as a tool
should you need it again on the
issue addressed or on other
issues you want to neutralise.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for a treatment?
When you
arrive for an Emotional Freedom
Technique treatment you will be
asked to focus on the problem
and asked to quantify your
feelings towards it on a scale
of 1 to 10, with a 10
representing maximum distress. A
short discussion on the problem
will bring about agreement on a
suitable affirmation or
declaration that you will say
repeatedly during the process.
You will be asked to tap on your
own body at several meridian
energy points, in a specific
order while saying your
affirmation or problem reminder
phrase to focus your mind. If
you find this difficult, the
therapist can do the tapping for
you. You may also be asked to do
a few exercises with your eyes,
count and hum a simple tune. Do
not worry, as you will be guided
through the EFT process fully.
Following treatment you may be
asked to think about your
problem or issue and quantify
the distress you feel. Dependant
on progress, you may be asked to
repeat the EFT process using a
different applicable phrase.
Often the distress is completely
gone and the thought no longer
has the emotional charge it had
previously.
