Complementary Medicine is based largely on age old knowledge and
medical practices that have evolved to include many different
natural techniques for treating physical, psychological and
emotional illness. It does this most often by the holistic
treatment of a person’s energy systems, rather than a physical
symptom.
A complementary therapy is often used alongside regular medicine
and, although a therapist will not usually claim to cure what
are strictly physical illnesses, in such circumstances they may
often assist people feel better and more able to cope.
Many complementary therapies concentrate on relaxation and stress
reduction, helping calm emotions, relieve anxiety and
increase a person’s sense of well being and health.
Others enable the individual to overcome trauma, fear, phobia,
panic, etc., thus giving them increased control and freedom in
their lives.
Increasing interest and research into the
possibility that positive emotions can benefit your health and
aid ability to cope with illness has led to the field of
complementary therapy and holistic medicine becoming an
increasingly accepted feature of general healthcare.
